Prerequisites


Course Description

Spread spectrum refers to any modulation technique that produces a spectrum for the transmitted signal much wider than the usual bandwidth needed to convey a particular stream of information. It grew out from research efforts during World War II to provide secure means of communication in hostile environments. Traditionally, military applications, such as anti-jamming and low probability of intercept, have been the major driving forces in the research and development of spread spectrum communications. The recent advances in wireless cellular mobile systems have drawn intensive interest in spread spectrum techniques. In particular, the application of spread spectrum techniques to code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is being most noticeable. This course aims to provide an up-to-date introduction to the exciting and ever-evolving area of spread spectrum communications.

  2. Introduction to spread spectrum applications
  3. Spreading (pseudo-noise) sequences
  4. Communication over fading channels
  5. PN code acquisition and tracking
  6. Code division multiple access (CDMA)
  7. Multiuser detection techniques
